Long-distance removals from London

Leaving the capital is a different job from crossing it. The load is built for the distance, the drive is planned properly, and the crew who packed your house is the crew that unpacks it.

Three legs

  1. 01

    Loading in London

A long-distance load is packed differently from a cross-town one. Weight goes low and forward, everything is strapped in tiers rather than stacked, and the order is built backwards from the unload so the far end is not a puzzle. The London half also has all the usual problems — the permit, the lift, the narrow street — and those are settled before the day like any other move.

  2. 02

    The drive

One vehicle, one crew, driven within proper hours. Where a route or a load genuinely warrants an overnight, it is in the plan and in the quote rather than sprung on you. Nothing is transferred to another firm at a depot halfway, which is where long-distance moves usually go wrong.

  3. 03

    Setting down

The same faces at the far end. Boxes to the room named on the label, beds rebuilt, protection down before the first carry in the new house as well as the old one. If you have never been in the property before, neither have we — so we walk it first rather than guessing where things go.

Where London moves go

The home counties and the south
Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Essex, Hertfordshire. The commonest direction out of London by a wide margin, and near enough that a single day usually covers it.
The South West
Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Long runs with narrow lanes at the end of them, which is why we ask about the approach and not just the postcode.
The Midlands and the East
Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton, Cambridge, Norwich. Straightforward motorway work and the routes where a shared load most often makes sense.
The North
Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle and across to York. Distance rather than difficulty, and worth planning an early start for.
Scotland and Wales
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and beyond. The longest domestic runs we do; an overnight is often the sensible answer rather than a heroic single day.

And if the move is leaving the country altogether, our European removals run by road to France, Spain, Italy and Portugal with the customs declaration lodged before the vehicle travels.

Long-distance removals — common questions

Is it one crew the whole way?

Yes. The people who load your home in London unload it at the other end. No depot transfer and no second firm you have never spoken to, which is where items go missing and where nobody can say who broke what.

Can I share a vehicle to reduce the cost?

On longer routes, often — a part load sharing the journey with other consignments takes real cost out. The trade-off is flexibility on dates, because the schedule has to suit everything on the vehicle. We quote dedicated and shared side by side so you can see the difference.

How long does it take?

It depends on the distance, the access at both ends and whether the load is dedicated or shared. Your written quote sets out an expected window for your move rather than a number chosen to sound reassuring.

What if the new property is not ready?

Storage in London bridges the gap and the load travels when the date is genuinely firm. Far better than a vehicle arriving three hundred miles away at a house nobody can open.

Do you come back the other way?

Yes — moves into London are the same job in reverse, and return legs are part of how shared loads stay affordable. If your timing is flexible it is worth asking.
